Neighborhood and Mammography: A Multilevel Approach to Cancer Screening
Behavior
The major goal of this project is to support Dr. Dailey's career
development in the area of social determinants of cancer screening
behavior. We will be investigating the role of neighborhood-level
socioeconomic status and racial residential segregation on repeat
mammography screenings using national data sources, quantitative and
qualitative research methods, and the collection of pilot neighborhood
assessment data in Jacksonville, FL.
Survivorship Care Plans, Florida Breast Cancer Research Coalition
Foundation (MA Burg, PI, AB Dailey Co-I)
Survivorship Care Plans (SCPs) have the potential to dramatically increase
the opportunity for comprehensive and coordinated follow-up care for breast
cancer survivors, resulting in improved quality of life and earlier intervention
and treatment of secondary cancers and cancer-related conditions. SCPs are
instrumental to overcoming the current gaps in quality and coordination
of follow-up care. This project is a first step in creating a feasible,
effective and patient-centered prototype SCP that would be subjected to
further field-testing across different clinical venues and diverse groups
of breast cancer survivors.

Florida Disability and Health Project
http://fodh.phhp.ufl.edu/
This purpose of this grant is to improve the health and quality of life
of persons with disabilities in Florida. This will be accomplished in part
through the creation of an Office on Disability and Health in the state.
The new Office will monitor disability and health programs and services
and work to ensure access for persons with disabilities and to coordinate
disability and health activities across organizations. In addition, the
Office will analyze Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data
to inform policy decisions and monitor the reported health of persons with
disabilities.

Home Screening for Bacterial Vaginosis to Prevent STD:
A study of the Sexually Transmitted Infections Clinical Trials Group. The
study is a randomized clinical trial to determine whether a home-based screening
and treatment program for BV will reduce the incidence of newly acquired
chlamydial and gonococcal infections. This trial will include 1,800 young,
sexually active women at increased risk for STIs who are recruited from
clinical centers involved in the STI CTG network.

Direct Epitope Identification and Testing. The proposed
research will focus on the identification of epitopes from the influenza
virus, West Nile Virus, Coxiella Bruneti, and the live-attenuated virus
in the FluMist influenza vaccine. We will then assess the immune response
from humans who have had previous exposure to these viruses. As part of
the study, we are also collecting clinical information regarding symptoms
and other clinical aspects of these infections.

Alcohol Associated Outcomes in HIV+/- Aging Veterans. This
is a large cohort study following over 3000 veterans who are HIV-positive
and 3000 veterans who are HIV-negative. The primary aims are to assess the
relationship of alcohol consumption to various clincal and behavioral outcomes
in these veterans. Within VACS, Dr. Cook is involved in the Alcohol and
Behavior Change Committee. He is taking the lead on papers involving the
assessment of risky sexual behavior within this cohort, and the association
of risky sex with alcohol, drugs, and prescription medications such as Viagra.
